More community consultation must take place in the Western Vale over plans to reorganise healthcare services in the area – South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has said.
The plans were announced in a written statement by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services Vaughan Gething in October last year – and will result in the transfer of healthcare services in the Bridgend council area from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg to Cwm Taf University Health Board.
Several communities in the Western Vale fall under Abertawe Bro Morgannwg – but no reference was made to this in the statement – something Mr Davies described at the time as “unacceptable”.
In a letter to Cwm Taf University Health Board Chief Executive Alison Williams – Mr Davies has called for all community councils in the Western Vale to be consulted by the Transition Board managing the reorganisation – and included in the list of key stakeholders.
Mr Davies said, “When these plans were first announced – I warned of the pressures this reorganisation will potential cause healthcare services in the Western Vale.
“In particular – I was deeply concerned with how little regard the area was given in the plans – with the Cabinet Secretary not even mentioning it in his statement.
“I have contacted the Chief Executive of Cwm Taf – and asked for the Transition Board to consult all community councils in the Western Vale and ensure they are kept updated on the plans.”
