A suitable alternative site for Cowbridge Post Office must be found as soon as possible – South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has said.
Yesterday – Mr Davies met with Stuart Taylor – External Relations Manager for the Post Office – where he raised several problems experienced by local residents.
The town has been without the facility since last year – and Mr Davies emphasised the need to find an alternative site as soon as possible – in a central location.
Following the meeting – the post office confirmed “significant progress” had been made – with a new operator in the centre of town set to take over by the autumn.
Mr Davies said, “It is unacceptable a town the size of Cowbridge has again had to go without a post office – so it’s vital we work hard to find a replacement.
“This must be in a central location – and needs to open as soon as possible.
“I have been working hard to push for a replacement – and I’m grateful to Stuart for taking the time to meet. It is excellent news a replacement should be on the way soon and open by the end of the summer.”
Mr Davies also took the opportunity to raise concerns about Merthyr Dyfan Post Office in Barry – which is set to close on 31st May.
He pressed for the need to identify a replacement – and Mr Taylor confirmed he is working hard to do so.
Mr Davies said, “Barry has had more than its fair share of post office closures – and Merthyr Dyfan is the latest blow.
“We must all come together to find an alternative site – and if you operate a business in the area – please do get in touch if you are interested in taking on this exciting opportunity.”
