South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has congratulated Penarth-based Challenge Wales – after the organisation was awarded almost £10,000 in Lottery funding.
The charity provides sail-training for young people across Wales and the South West – with the aim of helping them broaden their horizons and develop their personal and social skills.
Challenge Wales recently acquired a second vessel – and £9,773 has been awarded to fund its safety equipment – including 16 sets of waterproof jackets and trousers and batteries.
Describing the award as a “huge boost” – Mr Davies said it would enable Challenge Wales to build on their excellent work and allow even more young people to benefit from the “invaluable experiences” they offer.
Mr Davies said, “Challenge Wales have done a lot of great work helping young people in their development – and have offered experiences that will stay with them for life.
“The fact they have recently acquired a second vessel will give even more people the opportunity to take part – and this funding boost will help make that a reality.
“It really is excellent news – and I’ve no doubts it’s the latest step on the exciting journey that Challenge Wales have embarked on.”
