South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has urged the Vale of Glamorgan Council to look again at plans to close Llancarfan Primary School – following changes to Welsh Government guidance that come into force today.
An updated version of the School Organisation Code applies from 1st November – which includes a presumption against closure of rural schools.
Crucially – Llancarfan is classified as such under the revised Code.
The Vale Council Cabinet last month took the decision to close the popular school – despite widespread opposition from parents, pupils and local residents.
Mr Davies said, “As soon as the proposals to close Llancarfan School were first announced – I joined local people in campaigning against the plans.
“The revised Code makes clear that rural schools like Llancarfan should remain open – and this comes into force today.
“In light of these changes – these plans should be looked at again and the school should remain open.”
