The Welsh Government must do more to help smokers quit the habit – South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has said.
Mr Davies made the comments after meeting the Judy Thomas from Community Pharmacy Wales and Suzanne Cass from Ash Wales – at a joint event held last week at the Senedd.
Across Wales – there are a number of Community Pharmacies providing smoking cessation services – but these are commissioned locally.
In Cardiff and the Vale – no nicotine replacement therapy services (level 2) are provided – while there is only limited availability of one-to-one support and advice (level 3).
Mr Davies has therefore joined Community Pharmacy Wales in their calls for more consistent services throughout Wales – and has called on Minister to intervene.
Mr Davies said, “It was good to have the opportunity to meet with Suzanne and Judy – and learn more about the services on offer to help smokers kick the habit.
“Community Pharmacies have a key role to play in terms of the services they provide – but there is a huge lack of consistency across Wales. Here in Cardiff and the Vale – the services are far lower than elsewhere.
“I’m therefore calling on the Welsh Government to step in and ensure that crucial level 2 and 3 smoking cessation services are available across the board.”
