South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has welcomed new employment figures that show the number of people in work is at a record high.
Since 2010 – the number of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance in the Vale has fallen by 1,572 – a reduction of 58%.
The unemployment rate across the UK is 4.2% - the lowest since 1975.
Figures also show wages rose by 2.8% compared with a year earlier – crucially ahead of inflation at 2.7%.
Welcoming the news – Mr Davies said it was vital the hard work continued to ensure everyone could benefit from a strong economy.
Mr Davies said, “The latest employment figures really are excellent news – with more people in work than ever before.
“Here in the Vale –the number on unemployment benefit has fallen by 58% since 2010 – with 1,572 fewer people on JSA.
“Across the UK – there are a record number of people in work – with the security and stability this provides.
“In the 3 months to February – wages rose by more than prices – meaning more money for hardworking people in the Vale.
“It’s vital we do not rest on our laurels – and continue to work hard to deliver an economy that works for everyone – from all walks of life.”
