Andrew RT Davies AM has today responded to the Welsh Government’s announcement of £5m funding to help eradicate sheep scab on farms across Wales.
The funding will be made available through the Rural Development Programme and will be delivered through an industry led project to tackle the disease.
Commenting, Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Andrew RT Davies AM, said:
“Sheep scab is one of the most contagious diseases of sheep and costs the industry across Wales millions of pounds a year.
“With around 14,000 sheep holdings in Wales, this funding is long overdue but is a timely boost for farmers to kick-start the New Year and will benefit our rural communities.
“This is exactly the sort of initiative the Rural Development Programme should be used for and I hope this scheme is now delivered in a manner which can be easily digested and implemented on farms across the Welsh countryside.”
