"Best roast in Wales" served up at Vale pub

South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has congratulated The Hare and Hounds pub in Aberthin on the news it has been officially recognised as serving the best roast dinner in Wales.

The pub – owned by husband and wife Tom and Sarah Watts-Jones – was named the Welsh regional winner of the 2017 “Best Roast Dinner” competition.

It will now go forward for the ultimate UK-wide prize.

Priding themselves on the sourcing local produce – The Hare and Hounds has also recently entered the famed Michelin Guide in the Bib Gourmand category – the only new Welsh entrant.

Mr Davies has written to the couple to congratulate them on their achievement – and has wished them the very best as they compete to be crowned the best roast in Britain.

Mr Davies said, “Being born and brought up on the family farm in nearby St Hilary – I know how vital pubs and restaurants are to the local economy in the Vale – particularly when they support local producers.

“Sarah and Tom put a lot of pride into their work – and the Hare and Hounds fully deserves this award – which is not only a personal triumph but will also be a boost to the industry across the Vale.

“I’d like to wish them the very best of luck as they compete to serve up the “Best Roast in Britain” – and I am in no way biased in saying they fully deserve to claim the ultimate prize!”
