South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies AM, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly for Wales, has expressed his delight following the news that Cardiff City’s owners have binned plans to change the team’s colours and name following pressure from fans and local Assembly Members. He said: "I am of course delighted that the concerns of supporters and pressure from Assembly Members, including myself, has brought about a re-think. It would have been a real shame if the club had lost that continuity and tradition, so associated with the club’s greatest achievements on the pitch.
"However, I would urge the club’s current owners to continue to look at ways of improving the club’s financial and footballing future. The reaction to these plans is by no means a rejection of the philosophy of the owners, who have invested heavily in the club since taking over.
"Cardiff City can boast excellent facilities, including a state-of-the-art stadium. I am sure that the supporters will be happy that their concerns have been heard and will be looking forward to a bright future under the club’s current owners."
Mr Davies had tabled a Statement of Opinion in the National Assembly calling on other Assembly Members to share his concerns about the proposed rebranding exercise. Mr Davies, a long-standing Cardiff supporter, had called on the club’s owners to ensure that supporters’ groups were given an opportunity to express their views. |
